The company was founded in 2006 by T.T.S. (Tourist Travel Service S.r.l.) when City of Rome Municipality enriched the local tourist offer with a brand new hop on hop off service provided with open top double-decker buses.
The service started in July 2006 with 4 buses fleet and a very simple ticketing system; Rome Open Tour immediately realized the enormous potential for this tourist product in Rome and in 2007 decided to enlarge its fleet with 4 other buses.
Despite its quite short experience in the specific sector of hop-on hop-off tours, but with over twenty years' experience in tourist business T.T.S. company made Rome Open Tour the leader company in the city of Rome, facing every day an intense competition with 6 other competitors.
In order to study and understand the world tourist traffic flows in 2009 Rome Open Tour provided its buses with a modern and innovative ticketing system and with a GPS position system recorder.
In the same period the company opened a modern operations room in order to offer tourists direct assistance and useful information, with great problem-solving skills.
In the past 5 years Rome Open Tour met the needs of thousands tourists thanks to marketing and commercial strategies, to the wide variety of products and to strategic partnerships and alliances.
Rome Open Tour is the only company in Rome selling a combo ticket (named Bus and Boat) which includes the hop-on hop-off tour and the cruise on the Tiber river (river cruises provided by "Battelli di Roma").
In 2011 Rome Open Tour enriched its tourist offer with three different walking tours available for free to customers. In 2011 more than 300.000 people boarded Rome Open Tour buses, with a 20% increase in sales compared with the numbers of 2010.
